Description

Pathophysiology II & Lymphatic System takes an in-depth look at the Lymphatic System that includes a discussion of the body’s immune system. A detailed look into HIV/AIDS is also included. We will also cover common dysfunctional conditions of the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems. As in Pathophysiology I this is by no means a full listing of conditions, but rather an in-depth look into the more common situations typically encountered. Being well versed in the vernacular and attributes of these various conditions ensures that the massage therapist will properly address the condition presented, as well as knowing when to refer a client out to the proper medical authority. Each section also covers local and systemic contraindications to bodywork where applicable. The section on HIV/AIDS covers high-risk behaviors as well as what massage therapists can do to minimize the (already low) chance of accidental infection. Having this information will ensure that the massage therapist works within their scope of practice, thereby providing the best possible care for the client.

Topics include:

Structure of the Lymphatic System
Non-specific resistance
Specific resistance (immunity)
Lymphatic and immune system conditions
Structure of the Circulatory System
Disorders of the Circulatory System
Structure of the Respiratory System
Disorders of the Respiratory System

All installments of The Living Body Series® are in the format of written text material with appropriate diagrams, much like a standard A&P textbook. Unlike standard textbooks, however, there are insights into the material that you, as a practicing bodyworker, will find most interesting and useful. Being well versed in this information will allow you to talk more confidently with your clients as well as with other health care professionals.

Practice questions at the end of each chapter will help you review the information and deepen your understanding of the material. These are for your use only and do not need to be submitted.

This course comes with a 25-question, multiple-choice exam which must be returned for grading. Passing grade is 18 out of 25 (72%). If for some reason you do not pass, a copy of the questions you missed will be sent back to you. Upon successfully passing the exam, your course completion will be entered into the CEBroker System and you will receive a Certificate of Completion in the mail.

This course is approved for 12 CE credits by the following:

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (includes the AMTA)

The Louisiana State Board of Massage Therapy

The Florida State Board of Massage Therapy
