The Nervous System and the Skin concentrates on those areas of the human nervous system and skin that are most pertinent for the practicing bodywork therapist. There is a lengthy amount of material that could be covered when dealing with the Nervous System; however, this has been distilled down into what is most essential for the massage therapist to know. Of particular interest is how our manual ministrations can positively affect the conduction of nerve impulses throughout the body. Extra attention is paid to the ways that bodywork affects the tone of skeletal muscles as well as how our clients perceive their bodies. The chapter on the skin details useful information on this largest sense organ of the body which is our contact point with our clients. Topics include how clients sense pressure and touch through sense receptors in the skin.

All installments of The Living Body Series® are in the format of written text material with appropriate diagrams, much like a standard A&P textbook. Unlike standard textbooks, however, there are insights into the material that you, as a practicing bodyworker, will find most interesting and useful. Being well versed in this information will allow you to talk more confidently with your clients as well as with other health care professionals.

Practice questions at the end of each chapter will help you review the information and deepen your understanding of the material. These are for your use only and do not need to be submitted.

The course comes with a 25-question, multiple-choice exam which must be returned for grading. Passing grade is 18 out of 25 (72%). If for some reason you do not pass, a copy of the questions you missed will be sent back to you. Upon successfully passing the exam, your course completion will be entered into the CEBroker System and you will receive a Certificate of Completion in the mail.
